About Us

Campaign For Commons grew out of other campaigns that produced a deeper understanding of the intersection of the decline of nature, the breaking of community, oppression and land injustice. There is an opportunity here and now to shift course in a way that benefits everyone. We care deeply about recreating communities that have been systematically broken by connecting people back to land in a way that is needed now, not 500 years ago. We are committed to bringing about the change and making commons for the common good again.

The Vision

Our vision for the Commons is where the human and more-than-human are thriving. Common land has expanded, and more and more people are holding common rights to land, rights that are needed in the 21st century in the face of the metacrises. Access to nature, biodiversity uplift, carbon sequestration, wildfire and flood prevention, social places, healthy food and social prescribing. Reforms will see another way of thinking about land property in the UK, enabling those excluded from land and belonging a chance to connect to community, which is people, other beings and land.

The Goal

Our goal is to get legislation changed, so that rights and responsibilities are available to more people, and to shift the focus away from extraction, and into balanced relationship, so that we may live with the land, still taking food from it, but also what we most desperately need - more nature, more carbon in the ground, less wildfires and floods, less fragmented communities.
